Essien WAS a good defensive midfielder but recently I didnt see the touch he got with Lyon. He's cursed for leaving them I think hehe.

If it's me I think it's Xabilito and Owen Hargreaves. Oh Hargy is Bundesliga defensive midfielder sorry Embarassed

thing is about essien hes amazing in any position if this was a "best defenders " thread im sure he would geta shout , his skills at right back are quality

I expect Mascherano to do well but I doubt he'll be able to put his name next to the likes of Keane Makalele or even Vieira(atleast not until he maintains a level of performance for a good 6-7 years). Not not the other two are anywhere close to what Keano was grin
